How Do You Celebrate?

If you studied CRK or CRS in school or you have a phone and access to an internet connection (which you most likely do, given that you’re reading this post right now), or perchance attended an Easter concert/play, then, these are probably words you are familiar with.

Maybe not exactly in the scenarios I have stated above but you get the message.

For some folks, Easter means a lot of Easter eggs with chocolate and gifts from the Easter bunny.

For others, it could mean watching a resurrection play over and over again, with the actor playing Jesus wearing a carpet-like wig and missing his lines while for others, Easter has probably never held any significance all their lives.

In different parts of the world, Easter is celebrated in diverse ways.

I’ll start with how I celebrate.

The main celebration is oftentimes on a Sunday which means there would be a special Sunday service and an Easter concert or play either in the morning or the evening of that Sunday or the day before.

It would also be a time for my family to gather together, share special meals and be grateful for the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If you are anything like me, for a better part of the week, you would watch the movie ‘’The Passion of Christ’’ and cry every single time you watch it because each time you are reminded of the great sacrifice Jesus made on the cross.

I also love scrolling through Instagram and seeing tons of resurrection plays. Some with the funniest set of costumes and wigs, others with mispronounced words and wrong lines.

Easter is without any doubt one of my best times of the year.

Some of my friends attend concerts hosted by comedians. After all, as Minna Thomas Antrim said,

“Smiles Are The Soul’s Kisses”

In other parts of Africa, say, South Africa, the day after Easter is called ‘’Family Day’’.

The holiday gives families the chance to spend quality time together.

In Ethiopia, Christians celebrate a holiday known as Fasika, which is 55 days before Easter. To them, it is a much bigger deal than Christmas.

During the holiday, people spend 55 days fasting from meat and animal products.

In Europe, specifically in Germany, they enjoy decorating for Easter. They decorate tree branches with eggs the same way they decorate trees for Christmas.

In Poland, families get together and celebrate by eating a filling Easter Sunday breakfast or dinner (this is more my style, 😉)

Easter is a very significant holiday and is celebrated all around the world in various ways.

However, no matter how you decide to celebrate this year, you must celebrate with this in mind,

1 Peter 1:4 (NLT) — ‘’All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation’’.

Because the most important thing to know this Easter and every Easter is “Why We Celebrate”.

Now, with all the love in my heart, I sincerely hope that you have an amazing Easter.

I hope that you spread love, and tell somebody about our Lord Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross for us all.

If you don’t mind and it wouldn’t be much of a bother, I’d like you to share with me how you celebrate Easter.

You may share in the comments or you can share via mail if that’s more your style.

Love, Esther 💛
