Hello readers 👋

I have missed writing to you.

Today, I am writing to you about something important — Health.

When you hear ”Healthy Living”, what comes to mind? Mine is food 😀. This is because I believe that what I eat is a big deal and very vital.

However, there are more aspects to Healthy living other than food.

So, I think we should ask ourselves, “why should I live a healthy life?”

1 Corinthians 6:19‭-‬20 NKJV tells us:

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which is God’s”.

So, I will write about three aspects of living healthily that I believe are important. They are:

  1. PHYSICAL HEALTH

Your physical condition is as important as every other aspect. You need to ensure that you are fit enough to face the hurdles of everyday life. The Bible also supports this with several verses.

God is concerned about your physical health as seen in Acts 27:34 NKJV

“Therefore I urge you to take nourishment, for this is for your survival since not a hair will fall from the head of any of you.”

God has told us from the onset in Genesis 1:29–30 NKJV

“See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you, it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”.

Is it not amazing that everything God created is for us to enjoy?

Ecclesiastes 3:13 NKJV says

“and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor — it is the gift of God”.

This verse tells me that I should enjoy my earnings after working hard and earning pay for my labor.

But, what does this have to do with Physical health? I’ll tell you.

If you deprive yourself of enjoyment (a good meal + drink) and rest which God has given to us as a gift, it will affect your physical health.

If you do not give yourself the time to relax and enjoy all that God has given to you, you will cause harm to your body.

Make sure you eat and drink healthy. Avoid eating food that can put your health at risk or excessive eating. The Bible tells us that if we must do things, we must do them moderately.

Lastly, eat right, sleep well, stay active (you can take short walks), and remember, physical exertion takes a toll on our bodies so take care to avoid breaking down.

2. EMOTIONAL HEALTH

The state of your heart and mind matter because whatever comes out of them is a big deal and a result of what you have been feeding them.

The state of your mind and heart affects your physical well-being.

Proverbs 17:22 (AMP) tells us;

“A happy heart is a good medicine and a joyful mind causes healing, But a broken spirit dries up the bones”.

Let me ask you, have you ever been so sad, broken, afraid, or anxious that it weighs you down and you just can’t deal with anything or anyone?

The verse above explains it so much. I mean, it is not a sin when you feel down sometimes. And like a friend would always tell me, speak to your heart to receive joy and you will see how much strength you’ll gain when you do.

I am also sure that there are times when you wake up with so many expectations, your heart is filled with joy, you feel so energized, and you want to do anything and everything.

This is why your heart and mind must be healthy.

So, how do you do this?

1. Speak nicely to yourself especially when feelings or thoughts not of God try to creep in.

Say good things to yourself. Repeat them over and over again till your heart believes it and starts to live by it.

“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, But a good (encouraging) word makes it glad.” — Proverbs 12:25 AMP

This is a very beautiful scripture 😊

2. Be mindful of what you feed your heart and your mind. The songs you listen to, the books you read, the movies you watch, and even the people you follow on social media. Your mind is not a dump so filter what you consume.

3. Never forget God’s promises. Whenever you are in a situation that sends your emotion all over the place, remember God’s word to you. Hold on tightly and don’t let go.

“Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweet and delightful to the soul and healing to the body”. — Proverbs 16:24 AMP

Lastly, practice daily confessions or affirmations. You deserve that much.

3. SPIRITUAL HEALTH

Our spiritual health is so important because it links us to the one who created us, our Father in Heaven — God Almighty.

“And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit”, — Ephesians 5:18 NKJV

Ephesians 5:18 tells us to be filled with the Spirit (The Holy Spirit). The Holy Spirit teaches and instructs us in righteousness. So, to be spiritually healthy is to live the beautiful life that God has given us and to walk in a continuous, and edifying relationship with Him.

How do we do this?

1. Fasting

Fasting helps us consecrate ourselves and put away distractions. By fasting, we show our hunger and thirst for God and his presence. Fasting helps us draw closer to God’s presence. The Yellow Blog will write more about this some other time.

2. Prayer

Prayer is communication with God. We are supposed to have a conversation with God or communicate with Him at all times and in all situations.

Imagine your closest friend, the one you always communicate with and spend quality time together. That’s how it should be, with God.

3. Studying the word of God

The word of God is food to our soul and nourishes our spirit. Just as you feed your physical body which keeps you strong and fit, you must feed your soul and spirit with the word of God. Continuous feeding will help you live a healthy spiritual life.

I have to tell you, this is my last post to you. So, I will leave you a heartfelt note, a verse, and a prayer.

My note:

I honestly thought that I would be able to write beautiful, edifying posts to you, for a very long time but this is as long as I can write. It has been an absolute delight writing to you and seeing you read every single one. However, I cannot continue to write to you because I have some commitments that would take up my time and leave me inconsistent here. So, I’m taking some time off to figure things out and maybe I will return to writing to you soon enough (maybe). You must know that Sike and Esther will always write to you. They love you just as much as I do.

My verse:

Proverbs 4:20–22 (NKJV) — My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in your heart; For they are life to those who find them And health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.

My prayer:

I pray for guidance on threading a healthy path, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. And for other parts of our life that will make us whole in good health, may God grant us and restore unto us perfect health in our relationships and finances in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Till I write to you again,

Love and light,

Damilola Aruna-Ogun 💛
