Happy New Month Readers! Welcome to June 🎊 🎊 🎊

Isn’t it amazing that our first post of the month is on the very first day of June? It is a blessing! 😁

Happy New Month!

So today, I am here to pour my heart and soul out. Just kidding 😁

But I can yeah? I mean we are family even if it’s online, we are still a family 😊

This brings me to our post for today which is (drum roll)

THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING A CHRISTOCENTRIC COMMUNITY

What is a Christocentric Community?

Kindly share your thoughts with us in the comment section.

First of all, to be Christocentric means to have Christ Jesus at the center of your life. To fix your gaze and focus on Christ by living out the realities of His life daily.

Therefore, a Christocentric Community is a community of Christians or Christocentric individuals with Christ being the common interest, focus, culture, and everything.

The sweet thing about the Christocentric community is that it does not have to be entirely physical. Thanks to technology, we can all be members of a Christocentric community on the internet or social media.

Just like ours, The Yellow Blog — A Christocentric (Christ-centered) Blog that is committed to helping you grow in your faith journey. By reading our blog posts, you automatically become a part of our community.

So let me welcome you, again, to our community.

If you are new here, you are welcome to The Yellow Blog. If you are not a newbie, you are welcome again, and thank you for sticking with us!

Okay, back to the post — Christocentric Community.

Let me quickly share a story with you. It is my story actually 😄

So, back in 2014, I did not have friends. I was mostly alone and I joined a church mainly because of the “togetherness” that existed amongst the teenagers (I was still a teenager at that time).

I was fascinated by how they came through for each other, prayed for one another, and still had time to have fun. I mean, having fun in a church? I didn’t know that was possible, at that time.

So, I loved every bit of my time spent with them. I mean what’s more peaceful than being in the presence of God with other believers who are always there for you, right? And, it was fun and good.

Then, some people moved to another state for school and I moved too.

Truth be told, because of the relationship I had with my friends, I didn’t mind making the long journey to church even though I had moved.

Alas, COVID happened and I had to change my place of worship to a closer church.

I’ll put a pause on the story here.

Now, do you think that it has to be physical before you can be in a Christocentric Community? Share with us in the comments.

Like I said earlier it could also be an online community where you could share testimonies and experiences, pray together, dive deeper into the word of God, and spend more time knowing Christ.

You may ask, what will a Christocentric community do for me? What do I stand to gain?

Well, joining or having a Christocentric community is important for reasons such as:

1. You have like-minded people to help you grow in your walk with Christ.

Whenever you feel like it’s not going well in your faith walk or journey, you have a community of believers to help you put things in perspective by speaking to you, listening to you, praying with you, and best of all, they do these things in love.

2. You have people who would pray with and for you.

Back to my story. When I started attending the church in 2014, I joined the workforce a little bit later.

You see, the thing that always felt good was when we prayed together.

We prayed for ourselves and we prayed for others who were passing through hard times. There was so much peace and hope from those prayers!

Another good example has to be this community, The Yellow Blog!

Honestly, some days in May, I found it hard to pray but when it was prayer time with my fam, even if I couldn’t say anything, because there was prayer going on, I was able to pray. Praying with them was good.

Side note: It takes discipline to pray especially when everything does not seem good.

So, I hope you see why it is important to be a part of a Christocentric Community.

3. You have comfort in difficult times.

In a Christocentric community, you are likely to have a squad (group of people) you talk to all the time. These are the closest to you and when you can’t reach out to the community as a whole, you have access to the small squad you are blessed with.

Ah yes! I have a backup story.

In the church I started attending in 2014, I had 3 closest friends (2 females & 1 male). You see, I’d always turn to them whenever I was in a bad mood or wanted to give up and they always gave me the words and comfort I needed.

4. You get daily or weekly support in your faith journey.

The Christocentric Community helps you stay consistent in your faith journey or walk with God.

You have access to Bible verses or scriptures that keep you grounded, just like we do here at The Yellow Blog! (you can check our social media — Instagram & Twitter).

You have access to prayer points, prayer meetings, counseling, bible tips, etc.

In a Christocentric community, you have people who will always consistently share the word of God with you, teach you and genuinely look after you.

The community can serve as a support group in your faith walk.

5. Most importantly, the reason of all, Christ.

A Christocentric community helps guide you in the way of Christ.

The community serves as a constant reminder of your realities in Christ Jesus. A community such as this helps you re-align your focus in Christ.

Finally, in a Christocentric community, you have access to people whose testimonies are uplifting on stormy days and we definitely need them.

Now that you know the importance of having and being in a Christocentric Community, I hope that you would consider being a part of one.

When you are helped and motivated by people with their focus on Christ Jesus who is love, you are equipped to love and help others also.

Please, bear in mind that the community does not have to be so big. It could be small. The main focus is growing and thriving in your walk with Christ.

I am going to leave you with a verse from the book of Hebrews.

“Let us be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good. Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more, since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming nearer.” — Hebrews 10:24 GNT

I pray that you find a community to grow in and with.

We look forward to growing with you as well. We love you!

Love,

Damilola Aruna-Ogun 💛
